Subject: 2nd Battalion Update...

Gentlemen:

You have received the message that Bill Hoskins will be serving in the 1st Federal Division. We wish Bill the very best & know that he will be a great asset to Division.

You also received the message that Errick Weiser has been appointed Interim 2nd Battalion Commander. We requested unit commanders to submit recommendations for the 2nd Battalion Commander and Errick received the majority of recommendations.

Jim Gellasch and Bill Hoskins were recommended but both of these men do not have the time to devote to the battalion at this particular time.

When I am on the field of battle I watch how commanders take orders and carry them out. I watch how fast the troops can move and get into place. I took notice that Errick reacted quickly and carried out orders without hesitation.

I appointed Errick as Safety Officer of the Brigade.   He has attended every meeting and visited many sites ahead of the event.   He takes his responsibilities seriously and makes the sacrifices required.   He is a busy young man but makes and takes time for the hobby of Civil War Reenacting.   We need young men to step forward and begin taking a leadership positions in reenacting.   It does take time, money and requires travel.

I asked Errick to write something about himself and he sent the following:

I got into the hobby in late 1995 through Phil Sample at Poison Springs.   I introduced my wife Jennifer to the hobby at Honey Springs in 1996 as a guest.   I remember that event because it was hot 104 Sat. & 106 Sun.   I was placed on the Colors as a guard and had to be completely accoutered and dressed to the top button.   Most memorable about that event was my photo on the front page of the newspaper and another in a book, OKLAHOMA CROSSROADS by Wallis.

My first born Jamie was at his first event when only 1 month old, Fort Smith July 1997 and another hot one!   My second child Slate did not get much hobby time since we moved to Wisconsin in 1998 to go to school and we were out of action until 2001.

I served as 1st Sgt. and Capt. of the 15th MO.

I was Knighted into the Order of the Spoon at Fort Washita during a muster by then Capt. Benefiel; standing next to Greg Urwin.   At the same time I was given commendations by commander Dolive.

S.D. Prater, Colonel
Frontier Brigade
